A successful day for the March working bee saw the repair of the glass cabinet, which meant removing the top glass panels and refitting them.
Over 20 orchid trees and 12 Poinsiana trees were planted out around the museum grounds.
The tree cultivation will continue into the future with another 80 orchid trees being started for planting along the mini rail track in the future.
Volunteers are needed to help maintain the gardens and parklands around the track and museum. If you can give a few hours, please drop an Email to

Another project being done "off site" at Coffs Harbour is the nursery for tree seedlings.
Flowering "Poinsiana" trees and "Bohenia" or orchid trees (like the one at the Lismore end of the station) are being grown from seeds for planting around the track and the museum grounds.
Advantage was made of the wet weather durung May/june 2010 to plant out seedlings when the ground was saturated. Most have survived.
The sprinkler system in the gardens around the "Frisken" loop will make it possible to begin planting these trees to give shade and improve the overall attractiveness of the site.
The station once again has beautiful gardens, like those it was famous for in the mid 20th century.
An avenue of flowering trees is planned for the "Norco Bank" hill, seedlings for this will be planted in the nursery in spring 2010.
